Casino News: World cup to impact 888 profits

World cup to impact 888 profits

The gaming giant 888.com have expressed fears that their profits may be significantly reduced as peoples attentions turn to the world cup in South Africa over the next few weeks.
888.COM which runs successful sites in online Poker, Casino and Bingo, have confirmed that they have already seen a down turn in player numbers of 18% from January to May and that a further decline was expected over the coming months – a worrying industry trend. It had been reported that 888.com had seen a decline in most of their products with the exception of Bingo which had remained stable.

This down turn in player numbers has obviously led to a decline in revenue. 888.com’s rivals PartyGaming have already announced a ‘softening’ in profits of between 6% and 7% versus the average from the previous quarter.

In addition to the World Cup, potential profits were also damaged when 888.com and PartyGaming were prevented from trading in the US as online gaming was banned back in 2006. The law had prevented offshore companies from providing online casino, poker and sports betting to US customers. It had recently been reported that US congress has now hinted that they are entertaining the idea of a reversal of the ruling and PartyGaming and 888.com are now preparing for the possibility of an exciting return to the US market. PartyGaming are said to be currently in discussion with several US gaming operators in a move to possibly establish supplier deals.

The current exchange rate had also heavily impacted the revenue of these companies with currency movements affecting revenue totals by approximately 5 million dollars in the last 6 months alone. A statement released by 888.com commented "The board has revised its outlook for the remainder of the year and now expects profit to be significantly lower than previous market expectations."
