In 1998, while still under than Victor Chandler name, the company moves its entire business off-shore to Gibraltar, a move that has since been replicated by a plethora of iGaming companies.
It is thought by many that this was the reason for then Chancellor Gordon Brown to abolish gambling tax in the 2001 budget.
After renaming the company VC Bet, and then returning to Victor Chandler, the company ultimately rebranded as BetVictor in 2012.
In 2004, BetVictor, then Victor Chandler, ran a televised poker tournament called the Victor Chandler Poker Cup, which it then ran again in 2005. The tournament swiftly became one of the richest on the circuit, with Harry Demetriou winning £250,000 in the first year, and Tony Bloom picking up £200,000 in 2005.
The tournament attracted big names in poker, as well as a handful of celebrities from other industries, including Ken Doherty and Teddy Sheringham.
In 2014, BetVictor signed well-known footballer Michael Owen as its Brand Ambassador, a deal that lasts three years. Following this, in July 2016, BetVictor became an official partner of Liverpool Football Club, further enhancing brand identity which has grown and grown since the 2014 rebranding of the company.
The company has also sponsored horse races at Ascot and Cheltenham, Welsh Open snooker, and World Matchplay Darts.
